The GovernApp Framework maturity model
When we first released GovernApp in beta mode, we provided a core framework for Board assessments, our comprehensive Four Frames framework. This assesses legal compliance, Board effectiveness, efficiency, strategy, culture, and stakeholder engagement. Feedback suggested that this was indeed a little bit too comprehensive, so in our production version we took on that feedback and launched Four Frames in three tailored variants:

Foundation: Perfect for smaller organisations, start-up NFPs, and those beginning their governance improvement journey.

Established: Ideal for mid-sized organisations, Boards that have mastered the Foundation level, or those with routine compliance and a strategic focus.

Advanced: Designed for large and/or complex NFPs, Boards that have mastered the Established level, and those seeking to test, prove, and continuously improve their mature governance practices. There’s a GovernApp framework for every size of NFP, and a pathway for Boards to progress through this maturity ladder, demonstrating their commitment to continuous improvement in Board governance to donors, grant makers, partners, and authorities.
